The Castle of Rothenthurn occupies
a prominent position on the green, southern slopes above
the village of Rothenthurn in the Drau valley. The building,
which includes a small and beautiful private chapel, is
notable for its picturesque skyline and romantic setting.
The castle, as one sees it today, was mainly constructed
in the 17th and 18th centuries, although its foundation
and rich history go back as far as the 11th.
Over the course of hundreds of years, Rothenthurn changed
ownership many times until 1880 when Constantin and Marianne
Graf von Norman-Ehrenfels purchased the domain. They were
the great-great-grandparents of the present youthful owner,
Georg, Baron Pereira-Arnstein who lives with his wife,
Maria, in part of the building.
In 2005, with great enthusiasm and dedication the current
owners set about converting some of the historic rooms
into a number of tasteful and comfortable guestrooms and
apartments overlooking the private lake at the front,
and the Drau valley at the rear with the mountains beyond.
In honour of their ancestral past, each of the guestrooms
and apartments is named after a parent, grandparent, or
great-grandparent of the owner.
From Rothenthurn it takes only a few minutes by car to
reach the beautiful Millstaetter Lake or the pleasant
town of Spittal with its famous Renaissance Schloss Porcia.
There is easy access to the hiking and skiing region of
the Goldeck Mountains.
Any guest to Rothenthurn will find peace and relaxation
in an informal and friendly atmosphere. The combination
of modern comforts, old-world charm and traditional elegance
will make your stay an unforgettable experience.
Come and visit us for a holiday that will linger in the
memory.
We look forward to welcoming you
at Rothenthurn
